Either Dominic or Annabel can work with you with this approach.
Cognitive Behavioural therapy is a short term form of therapy that is based on when someone is in distress they may be trapped in a sitiation where they can only see a negative and unhelpful way of looking at their problem. Its is based on the idea that the way someone thinks and feel determines the way they structure their experiences and they may not see that there are several alternative ways of looking at a problem. Therapy is dependant on a sound caring, therapeutic relationship where both the therapist and client agree on the goals that they are working to.
Therapy tends to be short and looks at how you see yourself in relationship with yourself, socially and with others. It is not necessarity about thinking more rationally and positively but looking at alternative ways of thinking about things. It tends to be structured and problem orientated and may involve the therapist making suggestions which you would work on between sessions.
We believe that while CBT is an effective stand alone therapy as a directive process it can be ethically integrated into a person centred therapeutic session where the client is fully informed and agrees with the goals of the session.
